Fairplay

Fairplay scores are awarded by both teams for their opposition after every league game.  These are collated and an award is made to the top team in each division every season.

For those teams who continually get low scores, the scores and associated comments are looked at and the clubs invited to discuss them and improve them.

There are clear guidelines as to what the scores mean which should be followed by all clubs.  A copy is below.

There is currently an experimental rule which can result in points penalties for teams scoring consistently low and for teams not entering scores on time.  This rule will be up for review at either the AGM or the pre-season SGM in 2026.

Fairplay Scores Guidelines

Level 3: A normal game played without any significant incidents or problems.

Level 4: A normal game played without any significant incidents or problems where the opposition conduct themselves in a friendly and sporting manner.

The above two will cover the majority of games.

Level 5: A game played in a very friendly and sporting manner where there are clear examples of good sportsmanship such as walking when given not out, calling back a batsmen who has been given out incorrectly, offering sub fielders to the other side, etc.

Level 2: A game played where there are instances of poor sportsmanship such as challenging umpire decisions, sledging, not walking when clearly out, etc.

Level 1: A game played where there are numerous instances of poor sportsmanship, blatant cheating which affects the result, or where there is serious misconduct by one or more opposition players in breach of the CS Code of Conduct which is not dealt with appropriately by the team captain at the time.

Notes:

  • If a score of 1, 2 or 5 is given this must be accompanied by a comment, based on these guidelines.
  • If a match is not played for whatever reason, use the N/A option.
