Sad passing of a true gent – Willie Morton

Most people will have seen the sad news of the passing of a gentleman of cricket; Willie Morton.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to all his family, friends and those who were fortunate enough to know him.

ESCA cannot put into words the loss and would not be able to do enough justice to him, but the words of another well known face in the East, Gary Heatly, can.  They can be seen here: https://www.scotsman.com/sport/cricket/scottish-cricket-mourns-loss-of-willie-morton-1-4968499?fbclid=IwAR1ILaXvES7rlGW1I7D2KNAIMdzSvf82bkYI6enqa1-Ns675G_NMdmI5XeM

We are aware that funeral arrangements have been made public and are as follows:

“Willie’s funeral will now take place in the Main Chapel at Mortonhall Crematorium at 2.45pm on Friday 9th August. A celebration of his life will follow at Tynecastle Stadium’s Gorgie Suite. A very fitting venue.  We expect a massive turn out so we would be very grateful, given the lack of parking at Mortonhall and at the stadium, that where possible transport is shared. Family flowers only and donations would be hugely appreciated to The British Heart Foundation (https://www.bhf.org.uk/how-you-can-help/donate/donate-form) and Sporting Start (https://www.sportingstart.org/start-benefitting) who Willie was a Patron of. There will also be a collection at the service.”

Rest in peace Willie.  You will be missed.
